Couples

Couples and partners will find a world of possibilities in Armenia, at places that mean so much when shared with someone you love.  There are breathtaking natural and historic sights to explore; romantic hideaways in which to spend time together; and memories to last a lifetime in one of the most hospitable countries in the world.

Whether you are on a honeymoon, sharing a lifelong relationship through traveling or just wanting to spend time together with a loved one, let a trip to Armenia be your journey of discovery.

Yerevan

Take a moonlit stroll through the Old Abovian Quarter, with its old world charm; walk down Ring Park and stop at one of a dozen exotic outdoor cafes; stroll through Opera Square and the Florentine gardens to Cascade, stopping at the top of the monument to take in the setting sun.

Visit the Hrazdan Gorge in the evening and eat out at one of the gorge’s theme restaurants, replete with couple and honeymooner dining suites.

Spend the night in one of Armenia’s high end hotels, many of which have suites designed for couples and honeymooners (Marriott, Hotel Yerevan, Avan Villa).  Others will enjoy staying at one of the city’s many guest houses, apartments or hostels.

Culinary delights await couples at one of Yerevan’s gourmet restaurants, like the Armenian Nouveau Cuisine at Dolmama in the Old Abovian Quarter; traditional Italian food at Cuchina and Ai Leone in the center; Bacchus art gallery and restaurant by Opera; or any of a number of intimate restaurants in the city.

Along with other excursions (see First Time Visitors or Short Stay Travelers), take a tour of the brandy factory, sampling award winning vintages in their vaulted cellar.

Nightlife in Yerevan includes excellent music clubs, bars and discos, with musical tastes to satisfy most.  Take in a concert or performance at one of Yerevan’s concert halls or theatres.

Regions

Tzaghkadzor
Winter fun blooms at the ski resort in Tzaghkadzor.  European class ski trails are expanding, and a number of ski lodges and cottages have been upgraded to international standards.  Snows fall from November to March; plenty of time to combine some day time skiing and snowboarding with night time snuggling in front of a fire.

Sevan
Sail Lake Sevan in a catamaran or yacht, spending your nights alone below deck.  Stay in a suite at one of the lake’s resorts, or in a romantic cottage on the beach.  Water sports include jet skiing, boating, water skiing, sailing and paragliding.

Dilijan
Dilijan is a Swiss-style alpine hideaway tucked into the Dilijan national Forest.  Over 100 B&Bs, guest houses and apartments await couples and partners looking for time together in a spectacular natural setting.  The old quarter has been renovated to look as it did 100 years ago, and nature trails and picnic baskets round out the town’s offerings.  Day hikes include trails to Goshavank, Haghartsin and Jukhtak vank.

Dilijan’s restaurants are set in some stunning locations, including the river side Getap with its dining cabanas and lively atmosphere, and the wooden Getik, replete with enticing old world recipes, folk art and Bronze Age artifacts found in its yard.

Lori
The Pambak and Debed River Gorges have some of the lushest forests in the country, the mountain slopes teeming with old world hospitality.   This is a natural paradise; romantic by its nature.  The river has a number of quaint river side restaurants and hotels that overlook the river and mountain slopes, including the lovely Anush Restaurant & Hotel in Vahagnadzor and the luxury Avan Dzoraget Hotel, one of the Tufenkian chain of  luxury hotels in Armenia.

Khustup facing your private balcony.

Nature Lovers
For many, the most romantic spots in Armenia are found in the wild, reached only on foot.  For these travelers, there is nothing more seductive than the splendour of nature, enjoyed with that special someone who shares your love of the outdoors.  Whether on the top of a mountain crater; in the recesses of a primeval forest; camping alone in a moonlit night; watching the sun set over a rim of mountains, in a river gorge, or through a stand of trees; Armenia has some of the most beautiful spots on earth for nature lovers:

Central
Explore the Garni Gorge, with its icy cold Goghti River and spectacular rock formations.  Hike to the Azat Reservoir where a natural hot mineral water bath awaits you; or uphill to Geghard Monastery, set within one of the most unique ecosystems in Armenia, brimming with flowers in May.  From Geghard it is a 1-2 day hike over the Geghama Lehr (and past a field of petroglyphs) to the shores of Lake Sevan, with camping, swimming and romantic evenings at the beach.

Arrange a visit into the Khosrov Preserve, home to rare species of animals, abandoned villages, and some of the most remote areas of the country.  Specialist travel agents can arrange romantic packages that combine guided excursions with evenings alone in a beautiful landscape.

Climb Mt. Aragats, camping on the shores of Kari Lich.

North
Explore the forests and canyons of Lori, spending the night in guest houses, B&Bs and luxury getaways in Dilijan, Ijevan and on the Pambak River.  Trails lead to seldom-seen wilderness areas and remote castles and monasteries.  Combine your nature treks with visits to Kobair, D’segh, Sanahin, Haghbat and Akhtala, themselves part of wilderness trails.

Whitewater raft down the Dzoraget River, spending the night at the luxury Avan Dzoraget Hotel.  The rive is also an excellent wilderness trail in itself, with camping on the river shoreline.

South
Explore the canyons of Vayots Dzor, camping along the river or spending the night in a folk-decorated guest house in Yeghegnadzor.

Hike the Vorotan River, exploring abandoned villages, old-growth forests and riverside hot mineral baths.  Camp overnight or stay in more comfortable lodgings in Sissian, Goris and Kapan.
