Kirants Monastery

Located deep inside the forest, the complex consists of three churches, gavit-halls, refectory, dwelling and service structures, defensive walls with a large arched gate.

Kirants Monastery was built in the 13th century. The cross-domed main church is built of baked bricks - a rarity in medieval Armenian architecture. The drum is faced with patterns made of colorful glazed bricks. The monastery’s interior includes fragments of wall paintings, and there are the remains of a large refectory and some other small structures to the west of the main church.
