Garni Canyon

Natural Wonders

The canyon is believed to be formed millions of years ago by volcanic eruptions followed by rapid cooling which led to the formation of unique rock formations which are similar to the Giant’s Causeway in Northern Ireland.

32 km

Garni Canyon is located around 30 km east of the capital Yerevan and contains some of the most dramatic scenery in Armenia.

The canyon is believed to be formed millions of years ago by volcanic eruptions followed by rapid cooling that led to the formation of unique rock formations which are similar to the Giant’s Causeway in Northern Ireland. The Gorge can be reached from a path alongside Garni Temple or on a cobbled road through the village itself.

In this spectacular scenery, which should not be missed, there are many options for leisure including a walk in the canyon, picnics, and swimming in the ice cold Azat River. Make sure you take all of your needs with you, including plenty of water.
