The Armenian genocide of 1915 resulted in 1.5 million deaths. We consider the 24th of April as the date it started because it was the day of the deportation of Armenian intellectuals. During this day hundreds of thousands of people walk to the Tsitsernakaberd Genocide Memorial to lay flowers at the eternal flame. The 44-meter stele represents the resurgence of Armenian. The twelve lost provinces of modern-day Turkey are symbolized by the placement of twelve slabs in a circle. An eternal flame honoring the 1.5 million victims of the Armenian genocide burns in the center of the circle at a depth of 1.5 meters. A 100-meter wall with the names of cities and villages where massacres and deportations are known to have occurred runs beside the park at the memorial. The commemoration wall's back side has plaques honoring those who dedicated their lives to easing the suffering of the survivors both during and after the genocide. In honor of the genocide victims, a tree lane has been created.
