This is the first gallery dedicated exclusively to female artists in Soviet Armenia, Mariam and Eranuhi Aslamazyan, and houses their complete collection of over 600 paintings, graphics, and ceramic works. Born not far from Gyumri at the turn of the 20th century and educated in the fine arts in Gyumri, Yerevan, Moscow and eventually at the prestigious Leningrad Academy of Fine Arts in today’s St. Petersburg, Mariam and Eranuhi were trailblazers at a time when female artists were not given the same respect as their male colleagues. Their work earned them the honor of National Artists of the USSR, and they frequently toured internationally, representing the Soviet Union and their homeland of Armenia. You’ll find Eranuhi’s works on the ground floor and Mariam’s on the second.
