Armenia is full of natural beauty – stunning mountains, dense forests, and picturesque valleys. One of the most spectacular natural wonders in Armenia is its waterfalls. If you’re planning a trip to Armenia and love outdoor adventures, then make sure to add these five must-see waterfalls to your itinerary.

Trchkan Waterfall

Towering at around 23 meters, Trchkan waterfall is one of the most majestic waterfalls in Armenia, situated in the Lori province. Once you reach the waterfall, you will be amazed by its beauty and the stunning views of the surrounding mountains. Enjoy a packed lunch near the waterfall while you listen to the calming sound of flowing water. What a delight!

You can drive to Shirakamut Village in the Lori region and take an off-road drive or hike for around half an hour to get to Trchkan waterfall.

Shaki Waterfall

Located in Syunik province, Shaki waterfall is one of the most picturesque waterfalls in Armenia, falling from a height of 18 meters. Capture the stunning views of the Shaki waterfall with your camera, but don’t forget to put it down and simply relax in your surroundings.

To get to the waterfall, get to the town of Sisian and then take a right at the “Shaki Waterfall” sign. Park your car in the parking area and let the narrow path lead you to the waterfall.

Jermuk Waterfall

Jermuk waterfall is another mesmerizing natural wonder in the Vayots Dzor area, near the resort town of Jermuk. The waterfall is around 70 meters high and can be reached in about 30 minutes by hiking from Jermuk town. The hike to the waterfall is relatively easy, and you will be rewarded with stunning views of the Arpa River Gorge, the surrounding rocks, and the refreshing mist from the waterfall.

Note: While climbing to the waterfall, remember to try some "mountain gum," a natural chewing gum made from tree resin. Also, give your taste buds a taste of local pine cone jam.

Lastiver Waterfall

Lastiver Waterfall, located in the Tavush province, is one of Armenia's most stunning waterfalls. Take your time admiring the waterfall and the surrounding natural splendor. The journey to the waterfall takes around 40 minutes and takes you through lush woodland and across a river. When you reach the waterfall, you can cool yourself in the crystal-clear pool below.

Tip: Wear suitable hiking shoes and clothing because the hike is often steep and muddy.

Gegharot Waterfall

Gegharot is another must-see waterfall in Armenia. Gegharot, located on the slopes of Mt. Aragats in the Aragatsotn province, is largely unknown among tourists, making it a hidden gem. To get to Gegharot waterfall, you either need to drive off-road on the slopes of Aragats or hike about 10 km from Aragats village. However, the landmark’s views and peacefulness will definitely make the challenge worthwhile.

Tip: Pack enough water and snacks for the hike, as there are no shops or cafes on the way to or around the waterfall.
