Minas Avetisyan was one of Armenia’s most distinguished painters who lived and worked in the second half of the 20th century. His museum is located in his birthplace in the village of Jajur, not far from Gyumri. Avetisyan is known for the juxtaposition of bright and dark colors in his paintings and his depictions of Armenia’s landscapes, portraits, and still lifes. He also created 20 frescoes during his life. Unfortunately, most of his work was destroyed in a fire in 1972, but you can still see surviving examples at his house-museum and around Gyumri.
