Celebrated by the Armenian Apostolic Church, the Feast Day of St. Sarkis honors the patron saint of youth and love. Observed on a Saturday, 63 days before Easter, it will fall on February 15 in 2025.
Traditions and Customs
The feast combines religious rituals with folk traditions focused on love and marriage. Young people eat salty cookies ("aghi blit" in Armenian) to dream of their future spouse, with details of the dream believed to predict their marital future. Flour is left on rooftops, hoping to find St. Sarkis’s horse's hoofprint, symbolizing blessings in love. Feeding birds with bread is another custom, with the flight direction hinting at a future partner's location.
St. Sarkis's day blends faith and tradition, inspiring hope and devotion while celebrating youth and love.
