Easter

Easter, Zadig in Armenian, is one of the 5 main holidays in Armenian Apostolic Church. As the first country in the world to adopt Christianity as a state religion, Easter, as Christmas, is very important in Armenia. Families, after the mass, gather and eat together. You will mostly see on the tables: fish, eggs, rice pilaf with dried apricots, prunes and raisins. People wish "kristov hariav i merelots" (Christ is risen from the dead) and have to answer "Orhnyale e haroutiunen Kristosi" (Blessed is the revelation of Christ). During the feast, we organize egg battles. Beforehand, we paint boiled eggs with color and we do an egg tapping: the one which did not break after tapping the others is the winner!
